From September 3 to 10, 2017, the fourth edition of the Hydrocontest was held for the first time in salt water (Saint-Tropez) and welcomed more than 250 students from 23 engineering schools. In total, 13 countries were represented.

The final phase battles were spectacular, as the performances were close between the prototypes. The big performance still bears the hallmark of the University of Applied Sciences of Freiburg (Switzerland), which places its two boats in the finals of the "Light Boats" category, which it wins with flying colors. the University of Belgrade (Serbia), then in the heavyweight category, where it falls in front of the impressive team of EPFL who played on a perfect mastery of his pilot. Highlight of Sunday afternoon, the "Long Distance Race", which gathered all the team on a long distance race for one hour, saw the victory of the UNC Medellin team, with a prototype at the forefront of technology.

The Colombian university has won several out-of-race prizes: the best design and the best "TechTalk" presentation. In other out-of-race prizes, the French from Le Havre Normandie University receive the eco-design prize (awarded by HydroContest sponsor Roland Jourdain) thanks to their fiber boat. The "lightweight" innovation prize sees the victory of HEIG Yverdon-les-Bains (who also wins the prize for best communication) and the impressive team of Universitas Indonesia in "heavy" innovation . Finally, the Serbian University of Belgrade wins the title of "HydroContest Spirit", valuing the team the most solidarity.
